Santiago de Compostela, 1st September 2010. Gsertel, the subsidiary company of the Televes corporation specialised in the design and development of professional measuring equipment for the radio-television installation certifications will participate in the IBC 2010. Gsertel will present at this forum the new and revolutionary Path Delay Profile (PDP) functionality, incorporated in its BSA 331 Field Spectrum Analyser. IBC 2010 will take place in Amsterdam from the 9th to the 14th of September.
This patent pending technology, developed by Gsertel, offers a thorough analysis of the echoes generated outside the guard-interval by the display of Single Frequency Networks (SFN) for the broadcast of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT).
SFN utilizes several transmitters to send the same frequency signal across the radio-electric spectrum, which can cause a problem of multipath echoes in receiver stations, originated by the difference in distance from the various transmitting centres. The number of installations affected by this problem is increasing, with the consequent fading in the quality of the signal or even the impossibility of receiving the DTT signal.
The technical difficulty lies in that, to see and analyse the echoes in DVB-T and DVB-T2 (modulation systems for the DTT signal), the spectrum analyser used by the installer must be locked onto the analysed channel. The echoes could be too severe or too distant from the channel’s guard interval, impeding the spectrum analyser to lock, which makes it impossible to analyse a problem which simply cannot be seen. The Path Delay Profile technology uses mathematical algorithms that bypass the quality of the signal to provide a thorough analysis of echo parameters well outside the guard interval, up to a maximum representation interval of 1.124 micro seconds, hence, allowing a thorough echo analysis without locking into the channel.
Gsertel has incorporated this revolutionary Path Delay Profile functionality to its Field Spectrum Analyser BSA 331, specifically designed for radio-communication transmitting centres, and will present it at the IBC 2010 trade fair and congress.
