Televes increases training effort to contribute to success of ‘analogue switch-off’

Company provides 7,700 hours in classes for professional installers in 2009

Santiago de Compostela, 1th February 2010. Televes increased its efforts in training telecommunications installers in 2009. Altogether, the company provided nearly 7,700 hours of training in 50 courses attended by over a thousand professionals.

The increase in the number of courses and training hours in comparison to previous years reflects the increased demand from Spanish installers in order to take on the adaptation of community facilities to the needs of digital terrestrial television (DTT), and Televes’ firm commitment to contributing to the success of this process.

The Televes Group has been a main player in the transition process to DTT in Spain from the beginning, collaborating with governments in defining the technical parameters and taking part in pilot testing. The company has developed and manufactured equipment for the signal transmission of DTT (gap fillers) through its subsidiary TRedess. Televes has also developed a satellite solution to cover areas of complex terrain that cannot be reached by the overland DTT signal, and made available for the market a complete range of equipment to ensure the capture, measurement and signal distribution of digital television in the best possible conditions, from the DAT HD BOSS aerial to a wide range of decoders.

The training effort that the company provides for professionals qualified to adapt facilities should be added to all this. This effort is continuing in 2010 and is essential for the smooth and consistent analogue switch-off.

Historical commitment to installers

Technical support for the market and professionals of telecommunications equipment installation has been one of Televés’ firm commitments from its origins; the company has a specific training department for this purpose. In the period 2006 – 2009 over 2,700 official installers and customers received a total of 21,000 hours of training, divided among courses provided by the Televes commercial network, intensive courses offered in factories and in situ training, applied by the commercial network to on-site assistance.

As for training, and with regard to 2009, 800 hours of work in the HDTV Tour mobile classroom should also be highlighted (www.hdtv-tour.com). Since the tour started in April 2009 it has visited one hundred locations in Spain, Portugal, Great Britain and Ireland, explaining technological keys about high definition television (HDTV) to installers, distributors and telecommunications students, a service that is already underway on the DTT platform.
