DISEQC CONCEPT

Description:

what is the meaning of this word?

it calls for digital satellite equipment control and it has developed by eutelsat and philips.

the logo being used to mark the product in compliance with this standard is:

the diseqc is a commuications protocol that uses the coaxial cable to connect both master and slave units.

control instructions are transmitted sequencially between both diseqc compatible devices together with the satellite if radio frequency signal.
usually the satellite receiver works as the master control for other devices, which are the slaves.

how many levels/versions of diseqc can be found?

this time around four versions can be found in the market.

  • tone burst.- this is the simplest level

it is an unidirectional control between the master and the slave units, e.g. domestic receiver and universal lnb.
most of the domestic receivers can send 13/18 vdc as well as 22 khz tone throuhg their inputs to the lnb allowing selection of vertical/horizontal polarities and low/high bands.

in additon, a 22 khz modulated tone burst can be overimposed through the coaxial cable thus making possible an extra on/off switching function in the slave equipment.

therefore the tone burst is characterised by:

  • it is unidirectional: the slave equipment does not send back response to the master.
  • it performs only an additional switching function.
  • diseqc 1.0
with this version the master unit is able to control several connected devices individually since each device is identify by its own address.

characteristics:

  • it is unidirectional: the slave equipment does not send back response to the master.
  • it performs only an additional switching function.
  • diseqc 1.1
it works very similar as the 1.0 version. the control command is repeated in such a way that several identical devices with the same address can be switched in series.

characteristics:

  • it is unidirectional: the slave equipment does not send back response to the master.
  • it is able to perform several switching functions.
  • control commands are repeated in series.
    • diseqc 2.0
with this version the master unit is able to control several connected devices individually since each device is identify by its own address.

the master unit receives a response from the slave unit that allows indentifying which unit is connected for switching.

    characteristics:

  • it is a bidirectional control between the master and the slave units, e.g. domestic receiver and a switch. the slave equipment does not send back response to the master.
  • in addition several switching functions can be performed.
