What is a ONT/ONU?
The Optical Network Terminal (ONT) or Optical Network Unit (ONU) is the device in charge of delivering the services the user contracted from the operator. The terminal range conforms to installation and implemented services criteria.
ONT can be used in the network topologies known as FTTx: Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH), Fiber-to-the-Room (FTTR), Fiber-to- the-Building (FTTB), Fiber-to-the-Business (FTTb), Fiber-to-the-Curb (FTTC), etc.
Multiple-play signals provisioned at the FibreData headend, such as High Speed Internet (HSI - High Speed Internet), VoIP, WiFi, IPTV and/or RF Overlay, etc., are available in their connectors.
How to select an ONT/ONU?
Based on the considered connection interface, several options are available in the whole range of network optical equipment. A comparison of the features each of them provides is described below.
